This fall Drs. Stanchevici and Paiz were active participants in regional professional development efforts at WATESOL and MDTESOL, underscoring GW EAP’s commitment to raising the discourse on teaching ESL students at GW and beyond.
At WATESOL this year, Dr. Stanchevici discussed his work with ChatGPT and helping students navigate a critical analysis assignment. Dr. Paiz was an invited panelist for the Higher Education SIG’s lunch-hour discussion on AI in Higher Education, alongside American University’s Dr. Susan George and Georgetown University’s Kathleen Kearney.
AT MDTESOL this year, Dr. Paiz gave two scholarship presentations—one outlining a pedagogical framework for ethical AI integration in ELT and the other on LGBTQ+-inclusive practices in an increasingly hostile national climate.
At the Consortium on Graduate Communication’s Summer Institute this year, Dr. Natalia Dolgova shared her work exploring the potential applications of cognitive linguistics to teaching grammar in L2 writing classes.
